About
The Charity of Jane Wright provides Almshouse accommodation to those in need and grants to both individuals and other charitable organisations.
The Charity converted to Charitable Incorporated Organisation status in 2018 and is registered with the Charity Commission under Charity Number 1177600.
History
The Charity was established by the gift of £1,000 which was left in the Will of Jane Wright dated 21st December 1675 to her executors to be invested so that the rents and profits could be used to put to apprenticeship as many poor boys and girls as possible, and any surplus to be used for the relief of the poor widows and housekeepers of the parish.
Jane Wright was born in the Parish of Holy Trinity Goodramgate but moved to London where she became a successful business woman.
